Disaster Hits Haiti

Yesterday, Tuesday January 12th, a major earthquake size 7.0 magnitude has hit the small country of Haiti. This is devastating news for Haitians all over the world. Haiti is the first caribbean nation/ free-black republic to win independace in 1804 with the most sucessful slave revolt in history. Although this was a great accomplishment, Haiti is the poorest country in the western hemisphere. It also has the 2nd highest population density in the western hemisphere with about 2 million people living in the capital of Port au Prince. Haiti has been through so much turmoil in the past few decades. Issues of political unrest, extreme poverty, violence and deforestation have weighted heavily on the nation.

Although poverty stricken, Haiti is a nation full of life and culture Haiti is best known for its Food!

Beautiful landscape...

And beautiful people

Haiti is also a nation of people who love God! And this is why it breaks my heart to hear that Haiti is facing yet another disaster that will bring them 10 steps backwards after working so hard for just one step forward toward economic stability. This earthquake is even more disasterous for the very reason that the infrastructure of the country is very weak. Because of the extreme poverty, homes and buildings in Haiti have been built without the proper framework. Here is an example of a typical home in the poverty stricken areas

The following images are some of the recent damages caused by the earthquake: More and more images continue to pile in via the web and CNN. These pictures are no comparison to the actual damage yet to be reported.. Haitians are a STRONG people and will get through this but we need your help. It has been reported that even a hospital and the presidential palace have been destroyed..not good! It has also been reported that about 9 million people have been affected by this earthquake. It has been very difficult for Americans to reach their family members in Haiti. This is the number provided to reach family 888-407-4747.

If you want to make a dondation of $5 you cant text "yele" to 501501. $5 will be charged to your next phone bill.

Please keep Haiti and its people in your prayers For the latest updates tune in to CNN
